Crazy Quilt Heart Wool Felt Applique Part 1

Supplies Needed; Scissors definitely! When working at home I use a Spray Fabric Adhesive (505). When traveling I use a Fabric Glue Stick (Dritz). Really like a Thread Conditioner on some stitches – not all stitches. Clips are great – pins also work. Tiger Tape is helpful especially for the Chevron Stitch and some people find it very helpful with the Blanket Stitch.

Lightly spray a piece of cardboard with Fabric Adhesive. This will prevent pieces from flying all over the place when spraying the wool felt pieces.

Optional: Whip Stitch. If you decide to Whip Stitch in place use 1 strand of matching color 6 strand floss. Do not Whip Stitch the outer edge around the Heart.

When setting #6 in place part of the 1/2″ tail of lace will be covered.

Once again, if Whip Stitching do not Whip Stitch around the outer edge of the Heart. When setting the remainder of pieces in place; the 1/2″ tails of lace will be covered except the outside tail at #1.

Complete Blanket Stitches between #1 and #3 and #4. Then Blanket Stitches at #8

Stitch another row of Blanket Stitches between #4 and #5. Then stitch a row of Fly Stitches

Stitch 2 rows of Fly Stitches or Double Fly Stitches between #5 and #7 and then between #7 and #8.

The Feather Stitch is so beautiful. If you need to practice; do not use the floss provided in the kit. Use 3 strands of 6 strand floss and practice on fabric that you may have on hand.

Using Tiger Tape or Scotch Tape at the top and bottom of the Chevron Stitch will help.

French Knots on both sides of the Feather Stitch will be stitched later.

Stitch 2 rows of Fly Stitches between #5 and #6. Stitch a Split Elongated Fly Stitch between #9 and #10. Then a row of Fly Stitches on #1.

Stitch a Split Elongated Fly Stitch between #6 and #9. Stitch a row of Blanket Stitches between #4 and #5. Then stitch a Split Elongated Fly Stitch between #8 and #4.
